OEC Sponsors Annual High School Programming Contest at Baldwin Wallace University

CLEVELAND, OH, April 5, 2017 – OEConnection LLC (OEC), a leading technology employer in Northeast Ohio, sponsored the 14th annual High School Programming Contest on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. A sponsor since 2007, OEC was excited to welcome a record number of participating high school teams and students to compete in solving the most computer programming problems in the shortest amount of time. Thirty-four teams totaling 129 students from 20 high schools across Northeast Ohio and as far as Columbus, joined in the competition.

This year’s winning team was from Solon High School. Solon has participated in the competition since its inception, and has won three times previously. Baldwin Wallace students from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) chapter managed the event, including creating the problems and solutions, updating the scoreboard, managing the judging system and awarding the prize to the winning team.

Susan Penko, competition co-organizer and Baldwin Wallace University computer science professor, said, “This is always an exciting event for us and the students as the contest attracts regional attention! It is really rewarding to see students share a common interest in computer programming and channel their excitement to help further their education.” Penko continued, “OEC recognizes the importance of developing student interest in computer programming and has served as the major sponsor of this event since 2007. We truly value and appreciate the partnership between BW and OEC.”

“We look forward to our involvement in this event every year,” said Amy French, OEC Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer. “Skilled technology workers are in high demand and we encourage students to explore and use their talents in ways that position them for future success. Software Engineering is a rewarding and in-demand career option,” French added. “We welcome the opportunity to sponsor this event as part of our educational partnership with BW and OEC’s on-going commitment to the economic development of the region.”

OEC has been the corporate sponsor of the annual Baldwin Wallace University High School Programming Competition since 2007.
