How RepairLogic Streamlines Technician Training and Boosts Profitability at Rickenbaugh Collision

$139 Increase per repair order
20% Increase in mechanical operation sales
15 min Average time to build a comprehensive repair plan

Overview

Rickenbaugh Collision, a dealership-owned body shop in Colorado, adopted RepairLogic to address two persistent operational challenges: getting new estimators productive quickly, and eliminating the workarounds their team used to attach complete repair plans to work files.

The Challenge

When Alex took over as operations manager at Rickenbaugh in 2022, onboarding new estimators was slow. Complex OEM procedure sites, inadequate parts identification tools, and lengthy procedure lists made it difficult for new hires to write quality repair plans without significant back-and-forth — particularly around identifying single-use parts. At the same time, the shop's estimating system limited file sizes, preventing estimators from attaching full repair plans directly to work orders. The team relied on a shared drive and manual note-linking as a workaround.

The Solution

Rickenbaugh adopted RepairLogic, integrating it into daily estimating and repair-planning workflows. Key capabilities the team relied on:

  • Single-use parts identification — quickly surfaces one-time use parts so estimators don't miss them during plan creation.
  • Shareable PDFs — full repair plans can be exported and attached directly to estimates within the estimating system, eliminating the shared-drive workaround.
  • Position statements and CRIB statements — built-in access to post-collision and post-repair inspection requirements keeps plans complete and billable.

The Results

Since adopting RepairLogic, Rickenbaugh has seen measurable gains across training speed, workflow efficiency, and revenue:

  • $139 increase per repair order — attributed to more complete plans capturing single-use parts and post-repair inspection line items.
  • 20% increase in mechanical operation sales — one of the shop's most profitable repair categories.
  • Comprehensive repair plans built in approximately 15 minutes on average.

Alex also noted that the shop's most recently hired estimator got up to speed faster than any previous hire — a direct result of RepairLogic simplifying the research and planning process for new team members.

"Having the one-time use part tools helped my brand-new estimator write quality repair plans quickly."
